Who is responsible for making and receiving payments in entrepot trade?
I've been researching entrepot trade recently and I'm not quite clear about the subject of payment and receipt in it. Entrepot trade involves three parties: the exporting country, the entrepot country and the importing country. The goods are directly shipped from the exporting country to the importing country without passing through the entrepot country, but will go through customs clearance in the entrepot country. So who is actually responsible for making and receiving payments? Is it the traders in the entrepot country, or do the exporting country and the importing country directly make and receive payments? I hope someone who knows about this can help answer this question. The more detailed, the better. Thank you!

In entrepot trade, usually it is the traders in the entrepot country who are responsible for making and receiving payments. This is because the essence of entrepot trade is that the traders in the entrepot country play the role of intermediaries. The traders in the entrepot country first sign a purchase contract with the suppliers in the exporting country and pay the payment to the exporting country. This operation can adopt common payment methods such as letters of credit and telegraphic transfers. After that, the traders in the entrepot country sign a sales contract with the buyers in the importing country, and the importing country pays the payment to the traders in the entrepot country. In this mode, the traders in the entrepot country make profits by buying low and selling high. However, there are sometimes special circumstances. For example, if the three parties reach a special agreement, the exporting country and the importing country may directly settle some payments, but this requires a high level of trust among all parties and a perfect contract agreement. Generally speaking, in most cases in entrepot trade, it is the traders in the entrepot country who assume the responsibility of payment and receipt to protect their own interests and ensure the smooth progress of the trade process.
