When people talk about China's foreign trade, their eyes always unconsciously turn to coastal cities. But you may not know that Fuzhou, located in the hinterland of Jiangxi, is quietly rewriting the regional economic pattern with its unique entrepôt trade model. Last year, the cargo throughput of the special supervision zone of Fuzhou Customs increased by 67% year-on-year. What kind of business code is hidden behind this figure?

Different from traditional import and export, entrepôt trade is like the "transfer station" of international trade. Fuzhou has the advantage of "three noes": not relying on the sea but having access to ports via rivers, not bordering but connecting to the ASEAN region, and not being a first-tier city but being a cost advantage area, forming a unique competitiveness. Mr. Zhang has been engaged in electronic component trade for more than ten years, and his experience is quite representative: "Through transshipment in Fuzhou, the delivery cycle for our Malaysian customers is shortened by 5 days, and the logistics cost per container is saved by 800 yuan."

In Fuzhou's entrepôt trade, electromechanical products account for 58%, and agricultural products account for 22%. This structure reflects a shrewd location strategy - not only undertaking the transfer of precision parts from the Yangtze River Delta industrial area, but also giving play to the advantages of Jiangxi's agricultural products. Ms. Li's tea trading company is just a beneficiary: "After Sri Lankan black tea is repackaged in Fuzhou, it can not only enjoy the preferential tariffs of the ASEAN region, but also quickly enter the central China market."

It is worth noting that the "Bonded Warehousing + China-Europe Train Service" model is becoming a new engine. Taking the intelligent warehouse built by Zhongshitong as an example, goods can generate a digital "ID card" once they enter the warehouse, realizing an agile supply chain of "one declaration and global allocation".

At present, Fuzhou faces three major issues: How to improve the professional logistics capabilities such as cold chain? How to cultivate more local service providers like Zhongshitong? Can a rapid customs clearance channel facing RCEP countries be established? The answers to these questions will determine whether this inland city can upgrade from a "transfer station" to a "resource allocation center".

An industry observer pointed out: "When 'buying globally and selling globally' becomes the norm, node cities like Fuzhou may be more flexible than port cities. The key lies in whether the logistics advantages can be transformed into high-end service capabilities such as settlement and finance."

Looking back at the midpoint of the "14th Five-Year Plan", the rise of Fuzhou reveals a trend: the international trade pattern is shifting from "coastal monopoly" to "multi-point blooming". For small and medium-sized enterprises, this may mean a new window of opportunity - instead of flocking to first-tier ports, they can turn to seek value depressions like Fuzhou.
