How much does an import agency usually charge? How is it calculated?
I recently have a batch of goods to import from abroad and plan to hire an import agency to handle related procedures. However, I'm not clear about import agency fees. Could anyone tell me approximately how much import agencies charge? What are the charging standards - is it based on a percentage of cargo value or other calculation methods? I'd appreciate any insights. Thank you.

There's no fixed standard for import agency fees, which typically consist of multiple components. First is the agency fee, commonly charged as a percentage of cargo value, usually around 1%-5%, with specific rates varying by product category and operational complexity. For example, general consumer goods might be 1%-2%, while complex machinery involving technical documentation could reach 3%-5%.
Second is customs declaration fee, approximately 300-800 RMB per shipment, depending on the number of declarations and commodity items.
Additionally, there are transportation and storage fees. Transportation fees are calculated based on method and distance, while storage fees depend on space occupied and duration. Professional import agencies like Sinotrans will provide detailed quotations based on specific business needs.
